SUMMARY:Both Sides Now: The Music and Lives of Joni Mitchell + Leonard Cohen
DESCRIPTION:Sisters Bar & Restaurant opens at 5pm. Information and reservations here.Doors at 6:30pm/Show at 7:30pmA SEATED SHOW \n\n\n\n “Two singer-songwriters sit on the edge of a cliff…” \n\n\n\nWith these words\, we are drawn into the world of Both Sides Now – a theatrical concert that explores the music and lives of long-time friends and one-time lovers\, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. Created by\, and starring Robbie Schaefer and Danielle Wertz\, the cabaret-style performance traverses decades alongside songs such as A Case of You\, Hallelujah\, Big Yellow Taxi\, Suzanne\, and many more. Both Sides Now is at once a piece of the 60’s and 70’s\, and of right now — offering us a story about the messiness of being human\, of lives persistently lived at the edge of growth\, and of finding the courage to turn toward one another\, again and again. \n\n\n\nRobbie Schaefer – Robbie is a rabbi\, singer-songwriter and theatre/film artist. The guitarist and songwriter for the indie folk band Eddie From Ohio has several solo releases as well\, including the 2023 single Under the Sun. \n\n\n\nHe is the founder of Lamplighters\, an online community that cultivates small-batch\, relationship-driven\, inclusive Judaism. Also he\, is the founder of OneVoice\, an international non-profit that unites and empowers youth through music and the creative arts. The organization was active from 2011-2023 and completed projects in Tanzania\, Nicaragua\, India\, Greece\, and Israel. \n\n\n\nRobbie has shared the stage with Jason Mraz\, Sara Bareilles\, Josh Groban\, Keb ‘ Mo\, and Emmylou Harris\, among others. His first work for musical theater\, Light Years\, which explores his relationship with his father\, a Holocaust survivor\, saw its world premiere at the Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre in 2018. The musical is now a feature film entitled Burst The Silence (Rolling Pictures)\, which released on streaming platforms in 2025. \n\n\n\nDanielle Wertz – Danielle is a storyteller\, collaborator\, jazz musician\, composer and arranger. Her voice—described by DownBeat Magazine as “evocative… remarkably intimate\, expressive and poignant”—has earned her an international following as a jazz artist and growing recognition across disciplines. \n\n\n\nWertz began her career deeply rooted in the jazz tradition\, gaining early acclaim as the youngest semi-finalist in the 2015 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition and runner-up in the 2017 Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Vocal Competition. After releasing two small ensemble albums as a bandleader and a third with Denmark’s Nordkraft Big Band that earned a 2026 GRAMMY® Award\, Danielle has affirmed her singular voice in contemporary vocal jazz and continues to expand her presence in genre-blurring large ensemble work. \n\n\n\nAfter completing her first European tour as a bandleader in the fall\, Danielle remains an avid collaborator internationally and at home in the NYC creative music scene. She is looking forward to being the featured artist on two major interdisciplinary projects in 2026: a Harriet Steinke original work commissioned by Beth Morrison Projects\, and a crossover jazz opera composed by Ben Morris with a libretto by Gina Stevensen.

SUMMARY:Django Festival All Stars
DESCRIPTION:Sisters Bar & Restaurant opens at 5pm. Information and reservations here. Seated showPioneering Romani jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt lamented that he might be neglected by history\, but today the ebulliently swinging “jazz manouche” sound he created with French violinist Stéphane Grappelli is more pervasive than ever. For this very special performance\, the leading purveyors of the style\, the Django Festival Allstars\, appear on the LA ROSA stage for a magical evening of hot jazz.  \n\n\n\nFeaturing the guitar mastery of Samson Schmittof the Schmitt clan\, the first family of jazz manouche\, the Django Festival All-Stars also includes accordionist and keyboardist Ludovic Beier\, violinist Pierre Blanchard\, and rhythm guitarist Francko Mehrstein — all of whom gained fame as part of the original band led by family patriarch Dorado Schmitt — joined by bassist Antonio Licusati. This assemblage of masters in the Roma jazz style are regular performers at the annual Django Reinhart Festival in Samois-sur-Seine\, France and New York’s celebration at Birdland\, which celebrates over a quarter century of music.  \n\n\n\nThe group performs in support of their new Motéma Music release\, Evolution\, a hard-swinging collection of original compositions written and arranged by the members of the band. Down Beat magazine hailed the release as “(jazz manouche) for the 21st Century!”

SUMMARY:The Iguanas
DESCRIPTION:Sisters Bar & Restaurant opens at 5pm. Information and reservations here. A seated show\, mostly. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThrough eight studio albums\, countless tours and Jazz Fest appearances\, and a flood in 2005 that did its best to take their adopted city with it\, it’s a testament to the band’s endurance that the same four guys that started playing in the early 1990s are still together. Joe Cabral is philosophical about the band’s persistence in the face of challenges that would have felled – indeed have felled – lesser bands. “First of all\, this is all we know how to do; we’re musicians. But more than that\,” he continues\, “we respect the power of the band as an entity\, and each individual in the band steps up to play his part. When it’s good\, that’s really what it’s all about.” \n\n\n\nRod Hodges agrees. “I don’t want to get all heady and mystical about this\, but it’s not really an outward reward we’re looking for. We all enjoy playing music\, we all get along\, and finding a group of people who can say that after all this time is a rare thing.”.

SUMMARY:Paul Thorn Band at La Rosa
DESCRIPTION:ON SALE 6/25 at 10 am (code RandR gets you $5 off – expires 7/4) \n\n\n\nThe Last Rhythm and Roots Show\, celebrating 30 years of music and community. We will miss you all and we thank you! \n\n\n\n\n\nWhen it comes to songwriting\, less is more\, and simplicity is strength. Just ask Paul Thorn\, who’s spent three decades turning soulful grooves and small syllables into songs that pack a big wallop. Maybe he learned the power of minimalism from his years as a pro boxer; maybe it just comes naturally. But whether he’s targeting heads\, hearts\, hips or the occasional funny bone\, he somehow manages to condense large nuggets of wisdom into tight little mantras\, the kind embroiderers stitched onto pillows before internet memes existed. \n\n\n\nThorn’s new album\, Life is Just A Vapor\, contains some beauties: “Life is a vapor\, let’s live it while we can”; “tough times don’t last\, but tough people do” (from “Tough Times Don’t Last”); “any mountain up ahead is just a hill” (from “Old Melodies”). They’re words of advice\, comfort\, support\, encouragement\, often meant to uplift\, especially in times of struggle. Life Is Just A Vapor is an outspoken account of the life lessons Thorn has experienced throughout his unique and extensive career and a reflection of his six decades on this planet. Album includes guest appearances by Joe Bonamassa\, Luther Dickinson\, Bill Hinds\, New Testament\, and the Shoals Sisters. \n\n\n\n“I like for people to be touched by music and get something from it\, something that they can take with them throughout the day\,” Thorn says. “Every song on this album\, there’s a message in it of some sort about how to live life.” \n\n\n\nAmerican Blues Scene writer Don Wilcock calls Thorn “an everyman (who) addresses things we all think about\, but few can articulate with the kind of candor\, humor and folksy truth that immediately endear him to almost everyone lucky enough to hear his music.”

SUMMARY:Steep Canyon Rangers
DESCRIPTION:A Celebration and ENCORE of the Rhythm and Roots Last Show\, celebrating 30 years of community and music.PRESENTED WITH THE FOX TUCSON THEATREON SALE THURSDAY at 10 am. PRESALE is one day only. \n\n\n\n\n\nSteep Canyon Rangers arrive at a moment of renewal and reaffirmation with Next Act\, their 15th studio album set to be released May 22\, 2026. The record represents a conscious tightening of focus: a return to the bluegrass foundations that first bound the band together\, approached with the confidence and emotional range earned through years of collective evolution. It is an affirmation that bluegrass still contains endless expressive possibility. Next Act finds the Rangers sounding deeply at home in their own musical language\, drawing strength from tradition while continuing to write new chapters within it. \n\n\n\nFormed in North Carolina and shaped equally by the Appalachian Mountains and the Piedmont\, Steep Canyon Rangers have long occupied a singular space in American roots music. From their earliest recordings\, the band demonstrated an unusual ability to honor traditional bluegrass forms while allowing contemporary songwriting\, literary influence\, and regional storytelling to seep naturally into the music. Over time\, this balance earned them both bluegrass credibility and broader Americana acclaim\, culminating in a Best Bluegrass Album GRAMMY Award for 2013’s Nobody Knows You\, additional nominations for Rare Bird Alert (2012) and North Carolina Songbook (2020)\, and an induction into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. \n\n\n\nIn recent years\, as their audience expanded and their songwriting reach grew wider\, the Rangers began to feel a pull back toward the elemental forces that shaped them: acoustic instruments speaking clearly\, songs built for ensemble interplay\, and stories grounded in lived experience and regional memory. Next Act emerges from that impulse. \n\n\n\nSteep Canyon Rangers is made up of Graham Sharp on banjo and vocals\, Mike Guggino on mandolin/mandola and vocals\, Aaron Burdett on guitar and vocals\, Nicky Sanders on fiddle and vocals\, Mike Ashworth on drums\, dobro\, percussion and vocals\, and Barrett Smith on bass\, guitar\, and vocals.
