SUMMARY:An Evening with Darrell Scott
DESCRIPTION:DARRELL SCOTTAward Winning Multi-Instrumentalist and Singer-SongwriterTuesday\, November 11thLA ROSA – 800 N Country ClubShow at 7:00pm | Doors 6:15pm | Veranda Bar at 5:30 (21+)Find TICKETS HERE \n\n\n\nGold Circle (rows 1-5\,  premium chair) $61.81Rose Circle (rows 6-10) $43.63Seated Gen. Admission(16+) $31.69 \n\n\n\nWATCH Video (You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDarrell Scott is the epitome of the ideal journeyman. A multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter\, he’s collaborated with practically everyone in the top tier of contemporary Bluegrass and Americana\, including Robert Plant\, Steve Earle\, Sam Bush\, Emmylou Harris\, Guy Clark\, Tim O’Brien\, Kate Ruby\, Mary Gauthier\, Tim O’Brien\, Verlon Thomson\, Jimmie Dale Gilmore\, and a list that goes on and on. He’s been the beneficiary of any number of kudos across the board\, including Song of the Year honors from the Americana Music Association for “Hank Williams’ Ghost” and “Songwriter of the Year” from both ASCAP and Nashville Songwriters Association International. The elevated status of his song “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alone”\, became the closing track for the popular TV series “Justified” during several of its seasons. \n\n\n\nDarrell Scott seems to have inherited his abilities quite naturally. Having inherited the traditional template of his dad\, Wayne Scott\, his father’s influence has never wavered. “This Weary Way”\, on his terrific album\, Old Cane Back Rocker\, was\, in fact\, written by the elder Scott. \n\n\n\nThese days  you’ll find Scott roaming his Tennessee wilderness acreage hiking along the small river\, creating delicious meals with food raised on his property\, and playing music. He often leads songwriting workshops to help people tell their own truths with their stories\, and is as busy as always writing\, producing\, performing\, and just plain fully immersing himself in life.

Della Mae is one such band. \n\n\n\nThe GRAMMY-nominated string band was founded in 2010 and over the next decade and a half they’ve demonstrated to the roots music world\, once and for all\, that a band of all women is not\, nor has ever been\, a mere novelty. They remain at the forefront of the explosion of women instrumentalists and all-women acts in roots music and their impact is striking and measurable – not just in North America\, but around the globe. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNow 15 years since their origin\, Della Mae can boast their strongest lineup yet. Founders Kimber Ludiker and Celia Woodsmith are joined by guitarist and songwriter Avril Smith and vocalist and two-time IBMA Bass Player of the Year Vickie Vaughn. \n\n\n\nThere has never been a band like Della Mae in roots music before\, but thanks to Kimber Ludiker\, Celia Woodsmith\, Avril Smith\, Vickie Vaughn – and all of the women who have been part of this band over its long life – we know there will be many more bands\, singers\, songwriters\, and pickers just like Della Mae in the future.

The self-taught\, left-handed Montoya mastered his craft under Collins’ tutelage. \n\n\n\nIncorporating lessons learned from his mentors\, the iconic Collins (for whom he originally drummed)\, and UK legend John Mayall\, Montoya puts his own stamp onto every song he performs. Since his first solo album in 1995 (which won him the Blues Music Award for Best New Artist)\, Montoya’s endlessly inventive guitar work and passionate\, hard-hitting vocals have kept him at the top of the blues world. With his new Alligator Records album\, Writing On The Wall (his sixth for the label)\, Montoya delivers what he is already calling one of the best records he’s ever made. For the very first time on Alligator\, he decided to bring his road-tested band—noted keyboardist and songwriter Jeff Paris (Keb’ Mo’\, Bill Withers)\, bassist Nathan Brown\, and drummer Rena Beavers—into the studio with him. Between the camaraderie of the long-time bandmates and the sheer talent of all involved\, the results have left Coco\, in his words\, “over the moon.”

SUMMARY:BIG RICHARD "Girl Dinner Tour"
DESCRIPTION:BIG RICHARD “Girl Dinner Tour”All-female Bluegrass SupergroupSunday\, Oct. 26Club Congress\, indoorsShow 7:30pm | Doors at 7Advance $27.51 | All AgesFind TICKETS HERE \n\n\n\n*This is a STANDING show(ADA needs- call to arrange – 520-622-8848) \n\n\n\nSince exploding onto the Colorado scene in 2021\, the four women of the bluegrass supergroup Big Richard have been on a wild ride. Although they showed up to their first gig armed with homemade puff paint t-shirts\, a load of crass jokes\, and all dressed intentionally like Stevie Nicks\, from the first few notes of their tight vocal harmonies\, dazzling string virtuosity\, and clever arrangements\, no one had any choice but to take them seriously. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetermined to be more than a one-night stand\, Big Richard hit the road. They slapped as hard as possible on the festival circuit\, worked up their stamina on nationwide headlining tours\, and left a wake of die-hard Big Richard Heads across the country swooning for their honest songwriting\, chilling vocals\, and fiddle-driven barn-burners. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFueled by a steady diet of gas station snacks\, Big Richard is currently touring their debut full-length studio album Girl Dinner\, following a whirlwind year that included performances on PBS’ the Cavern Sessions\, NPR’s World Cafe\, Telluride Bluegrass Festival\, Delfest\, Bourbon and Beyond\, Jam Cruise\, and New Year’s Eve at the Ryman in Nashville. \n\n\n\nThey often refer to themselves as the gremlins of the bluegrass world\, and the gremlins are: platinum recording artist Bonnie Sims\, who rips the mandolin and smells like Snoop Dogg’s sock drawer; road dog Eve Panning\, who toured extensively with the fiddle band Barrage and has trained her dog to murder on command; bassist Hazel Royer\, plucked from the sidewalk in front of Berklee\, can probably communicate with crows; and Dr. Joy Adams\, who would just rather be skiing.

SUMMARY:Alejandro Escovedo\, with support from Dave Gonzalez
DESCRIPTION:ALEJANDRO ESCOVEDOw/ Dave GonzalezHotel Congress Plaza Stage – mostly seatedFri\, Oct 24 at 7:30 | Doors at 7 \n\n\n\nFind TICKETS HEREGeneral Adm. Standing: $36Upper Level Premium Seating: 47.85Premium Seating: $47.85General Adm. Seating: $42.18 \n\n\n\nWatch VIDEO  \n\n\n\nAlejandro Escovedo returns to explore “one of the most fascinating paths in music” (NPR Music) on Echo Dancing – a career-spanning collection that’s less a look back than a bold new turn for this sonic adventurer and singular creative mind. Completely reinventing and re-recording his previous work – with inspiration from Brian Eno and Judy Nylon and Suicide – Escovedo traces a one-of-a-kind musical life from ‘70s New York punk to Austin’s “musical conscience and hometown hero” (NPR Alt Latino) to unflinching advocate for musicians’ mental health and immigrant causes. With the announcement of Echo Dancing – last Spring via Yep Roc Records – Escovedo has also shared a scorching reimagining of “Bury Me\,” a song he first wrote in the early ‘90s contemplating what would happen if he “should die before he turns 43″…fittingly it’s released today\, on his 73rd birthday. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“I was planning this record just prior to boarding a plane to Italy to record with [co-producers] Don Antonio and Nicola Peruch\,” says Escovedo. “My original idea was to record an album of new material. But then I changed my mind and thought that revisiting songs from my various albums would be more interesting. I always feel that a well-written song can withstand a lot of abuse. Turning a past song inside out leads to discovery of new ideas you might not have understood. The songs never seem to be complete. They are always evolving.” \n\n\n\nThroughout Echo Dancing\, Escovedo revisits rarities from his ‘80s Austin groups Buick MacKane and The True Believers (natural picks for a recent Austin City Limits Hall of Fame inductee)\, solo standouts that had No Depression crown him Artist Of The Decade in the ‘90s and more recent work through 2018’s scorching and cinematic border epic The Crossing. That most recent album saw Escovedo deliver a powerful repudiation of the bigotry and xenophobia coming from Washington at the time – on a collection that garnered praise from CBS This Morning\, The New Yorker\, Rolling Stone and NPR’s Tiny Desk – for a sound that channeled “Townes Van Zandt and Iggy Pop teaming up for a film noir soundtrack” (Billboard). Holding true to his musical vision since his time opening for The Sex Pistols as a member of punk pioneers The Nuns\, Echo Dancing cements Escovedo as a too-often overlooked but integral legend of 21st century American music. \n\n\n\nDave Gonzalez is a preeminent American roots music guitarist. In 1980 he was the founding member of the rockabilly blues band The Paladins. His group would go on to record twelve albums and headline festivals around the world. Endorsed by Fender\, the company made a Signature Model guitar for him called the Guild Paladin and Guitar Player Magazine has called him one of the Top 101 Unsung Guitar Heroes. In 2003 Gonzalez\, along with vocalist Chris Gaffney\, founded the western soul band\, The Hacienda Brothers. This ensemble would go on to gain critical acclaim\, including a 2007 nomination by the Americana Music Association for “Group of The Year.”

At 17\, he recorded the instrument’s anthem\, “Green Onions”  NPR \n\n\n\nFrom an early age\, Booker T. Jones—“one of the legends of soul music” (The NewYorker)—was captivated by the magic of melody\, rhythm\, and harmony. So magnetic was the attraction\, in fact\, that by the time he turned sixteen\, he was\, incredibly\, already a working musician with a hit song to his name. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs part of the first house band for Stax Records\, he formed the category-defining group Booker T. & the MGs\, whose first recording\, “Green Onions\,” was an international sensation\, selling more than one million copies and winning a place among Rolling Stone’s top five hundred songs of all time. Not stopping there\, Jones continued to push soul music’s boundaries\, refining it to its essence and then injecting it into the nation’s bloodstream. Nearly five decades after he first made his entrance onto the scene\, Jones paved the way for modern soul music and is largely responsible for the genre’s rise and enduring popularity. \n\n\n\nFrom midcentury Memphis\, where the brutality of segregation was a stark backdrop to the loving\, supportive family and community in which he was raised\, to the creative hotbed of Beale Street\, the Harlem of the South; from his early friendship with figures such as Maurice White (who went on to form Earth\, Wind\, and Fire) to the complicated dynamics of the racially mixed MGs—Jones not only was a witness to revolutions but also wrote their soundtracks. His musical legacy includes enduring compositions such as “Time Is Tight\,” “Hip Hug-Her\,” and the oftensampled “Melting Pot” and collaborations with the likes of Otis Redding\, Wilson Pickett\, and Sam and Dave—and later Neil Young\, Bob Dylan\, Barbra Streisand\, Carlos Santana\, and Willie Nelson. \n\n\n\nYears in the making\, this unforgettable personal journey is so much more than just a musician’s tale. Indeed\, Time Is Tight is both the definitive account of one of modern music’s most influential eras and also a necessary addition to the canon of literature about American music. \n\n\n\nBooker T. Jones is an American multi-instrumentalist\, songwriter\, record producer\, and arranger. Best known as the front man of the band Booker T. & the MGs\, he has worked with countless award-winning artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and has earned a Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement. Along with the band\, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. Jones continues to record and tour internationally\, both as a solo artist and as head of Booker T.’s Stax Revue.

As dextrous as his fingers are\, his mind is even sharper\, and his songs are some of the best being written today.” Mark Engelson\, Parklife\, DC\n\nThe son of one of America’s most celebrated novelists\, James McMurtry followed the family’s tradition: he’s a master storyteller who relates his tales in verse and music. McMurtry’s vocals are dour and plainspoken\, but give eloquent voice to the lives of his protagonists\, and his artfully unadorned lyrics are often full of warmth and humanity\, even in narratives full of chaos. McMurtry made a celebrated debut with 1989’s Too Long in the Wasteland\, he hit a creative stride with 2005’s Childish Things and 2008’s Just Us Kids\, and on 2021’s The Horses and the Hounds\, the performances and production were every bit as compelling as McMurtry’s songs.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Vanessa Collier\, Blues Saxophone Superstar
DESCRIPTION:VANESSA COLLIER\, Sax Superstar\n12-Time Blues Music Award Nominee\, 4-Time Winner\nFeb. 25\, Tues.  – Hotel Congress Plaza\nReserved Seating: $30 + fees\nGeneral Admission: Advance $20 | Day of Show $25 + fees\nDoors 6:30\,  Show 7:30PM | GA Standing | 21 & Over\nTICKETS are HERE \nSinger/songwriter Vanessa Collier’s sixth album Do It My Own Way came out September 13 via Phenix Fire Records. Recorded on analog gear with the musicians largely in one room\, Do It My Own Way is sonically inspired by the classic Memphis soul sound of Stax and Hi Records\, especially that of the Staples Singers. The second single “Wild As a Rainstorm\,” which dives deep into soul territory\, powerfully gives advice to women and people who feel left out to ignore the naysayers and “Be a tapestry of dreams.” The track has been added to Spotify’s official Retro Soul playlist. The groove and horns would make Willie Mitchell proud\, and indeed features legendary Hi Records organist Rev. Charles Hodges. The vocals are powerful\, awe-inspiring\, and undeniably soulful vocals. \nThe songwriter/bandleader made her Chicago Blues Festival debut this year\, in front of tens of thousands. Best known in the blues world – she’s a twelve-time Blues Music Award nominee and four-time winner\, including for the monumental Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year\, Horn Player of the Year\, and B.B. King Entertainer of the Year this year – Do It My Own Way finds her influenced by soul artists like Mavis Staples\, Sharon Jones\, James Brown\, and Aretha Franklin. \nBlues Blast Magazine said\, “Vanessa is an important part of the future of the blues.” Born in Texas\, growing up in Maryland\, launching her career in Philadelphia\, and now residing in South Carolina\, Collier grew up listening to an eclectic variety of music. After graduating from Berklee College of Music\, she joined blues legend Joe Louis Walker’s band\, going solo at his urging\, and has become a notable artist “whose rise to the top is nothing short of meteoric” (Making a Scene). She has opened concerts for Blues Traveler. Her prior studio album\, Heart On The Line\, garnered rave reviews and spent nine weeks in the Billboard Blues Album Chart top 15.

Food/drink/concessions.\n196 N Court Ave. (corner of W. Washington)\n$26 advance\, $32 day of show\nPurchase ONLINE here \nTKMA and Rhythm and Roots presents a special concert in a special venue. Legendary singer-songwriter Steve Poltz brings his great songs and hilarious storytelling to the Presidio Museum for an intimate\, outdoor Sunday afternoon concert. \nGeneral Admission seating. Food and drink concessions will be provided. This is an outdoor event. Please dress accordingly.  \n**You may bring your own chair if you prefer but it can only be set up on the edge of the provided seated section. \nIt might’ve even been last night\, but Steve Poltz just played the greatest show of his life. Guess what? The next show will be even greater\, making that show the greatest show of his life.  \nAre you starting to notice a trend?  He isn’t shy about it either. Even after most likely thousands of shows (but who’s counting?)\, he hits the stage with the same amount of energy and always makes sure to declare\, “This is the greatest show of my life.”  \nIt’s why he’s quietly emerged as the kind of live phenomenon celebrated passionately by a diehard fanbase worldwide and renowned as a festival favorite everywhere from Bluesfest in Byron Bay and High Sierra Music Festival in California and Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado to Cayamo Cruise (where he actually got married). It’s why his music has crept into pop culture via collaborations with everyone from Jewel and Billy Strings to Molly Tuttle\, Sierra Hull\, Nicki Bluhm\, Oliver Wood\, and even the late Mojo Nixon. It’s why after over a dozen albums\, he’s still creatively firing on all cylinders and critically acclaimed by the likes of Rolling Stone\, Associated Press\, Billboard\, and many more.  \nIn the end\, Steve is probably gearing up for the greatest show of his life as you read this. Thankfully\, that will never change. \nHe signs off\, “I’m just a weirdo\, a freak\, a bon vivant\, a rounder\, a rabble rouser\, a workaholic\, a people pleaser\, an idiot and a grateful kid who ran away and joined the circus.” \nCan we say it might just be The Greatest Show on Earth?! Nevertheless\, the next gig will be the greatest show for him (and for you too)…

SUMMARY:Two-Time Grammy Nominee\, Robbie Fulks
DESCRIPTION:Robbie Fulks\nCountry\, Bluegrass\, and Americana with a huge dose of humor.\nNovember 14\, at 191 Toole\nFREE PARKING on site!\nSeated show – doors at 6:30\, show at 7:30\n$25 advance-  at Rialto Box office -in person or call 520-740-1000\nBox office hours – Tuesday – Saturday- Noon to 5 pm\nonline TICKETS HERE \nRobbie Fulks is a singer\, recording artist\, instrumentalist\, composer\, and songwriter. His current release\, Bluegrass Vacation on Compass Records\, returns him to his bluegrass roots\, with a large group of masterful musicians including Sam Bush\, Jerry Douglas\, Justin Moses\, Ronnie McCoury\, Alison Brown\, David Grier\, Tim O’Brien\, Todd Phillips\, John Cowan\, Brennen Leigh\, Randy Kohrs\, Sierra Hull\, Stuart Duncan\, Shad Cobb\, and Chris Eldridge. Across 11 new original songs (and one freewheeling interpretation of the Delmore Brothers)\, Robbie covers themes like small-town blues\, the endurance of childhood memory\, inebriation\, love\, divorce\, the role of music in strengthening family bonds\, losing a loved one to Alzheimer’s\, and bluegrass itself. \nHis most recent release\, 2017’s Upland Stories\, earned year’s-best recognition from NPR and Rolling Stone among many others\, as well as two Grammy® nominations\, for folk album and American roots song (“Alabama At Night”). \nFulks was born in York\, Pennsylvania\, and grew up in a half-dozen small towns in southeast Pennsylvania\, the North Carolina Piedmont\, and the Blue Ridge area of Virginia. He learned guitar from his dad\, banjo from Earl Scruggs and John Hartford records. He attended Columbia College in New York City. \nIn 1983 he moved to Chicago and joined Greg Cahill’s Special Consensus Bluegrass Band. He taught music at Old Town School of Folk Music from 1984 to 1996\, and worked as a staff songwriter on Music Row in Nashville from 1993 to 1998. His early solo work — Country Love Songs (1996) and South Mouth (1997) — helped define the “alternative country” movement of the 1990s. For most of the present century\, Robbie has been playing acoustic music through microphones\, which lets him give more attention to his flatpicking and banjo playing\, and complements his more sepia-toned subject matter — the slings of time\, the troubles of common people. His repertory of traveling players includes folks like Shad Cobb\, Missy Raines\, Robbie Gjersoe\, Jenny Scheinman\, Matt Flinner\, Don Stiernberg\, and Jesse Cobb. However\, two non-acoustic recent side projects are his 2018 duo record with Linda Gail Lewis\, Wild! Wild! Wild!\, an NPR favorite which leans to rock-and-roll and classic country-and-western\, and his double-vinyl reinterpretation of the Bob Dylan record Street-Legal\, which is titled 16\, is musically unbounded and is no one’s favorite. \nRadio: multiple appearances on WSM’s “Grand Ole Opry”; PRI’s “Whadd’ya Know”; NPR’s “Fresh Air\,” “Mountain Stage\,” and “World Cafe”; and the syndicated “Acoustic Cafe” and “Laura Ingraham Show.” TV: PBS’s Austin City Limits; NBC’s Today\, Late Night with Conan O’Brien\, Later with Carson Daly\, and 30 Rock. From 2004 to 2008 he hosted an hourlong performance/interview program for XM satellite radio\, “Robbie’s Secret Country.” Artists who have covered his songs include Sam Bush\, Kelly Hogan\, Andrew Bird\, Mollie O’Brien\, Rosie Flores\, John Cowan\, and Old 97s. \nRobbie’s writing on music and life have appeared in GQ\, Blender\, the Chicago Reader\, DaCapo Press’s Best Music Writing anthologies for 2001 and 2004\, Amplified: Fiction from Leading Alt-Country\, Indie Rock\, Blues and Folk Musicians\, and A Guitar and A Pen: Stories by Country Music’s Greatest Songwriters. As an instrumentalist\, he has accompanied the Irish fiddle master Liz Carroll\, the distinguished jazz violinist Jenny Scheinman\, and the New Orleans pianist Dr. John. As a producer his credits include Touch My Heart: A Tribute to Johnny Paycheck (Sugar Hill\, 2004) and Big Thinkin’ by Dallas Wayne (Hightone\, 2000). Theatrical credits include “Woody Guthrie’s American Song” and Harry Chapin’s “Cottonpatch Gospel.” He served twice as judge for the Winfield National Flatpicking Guitar competition. He tours yearlong with various configurations. \nBesides country and bluegrass music\, Robbie is fiercely fond of Charles Mingus\, P.G. Wodehouse\, quantum mechanics\, his wife Donna\, comedy in almost all forms\, cooking\, swimming laps\, the past\, Arthur Schopenhauer\, Universal horror movies\, his grandson and even his sons\, coastal towns in the offseason\, and rye whiskey\, though in nothing like that order.

She has released 16 albums between 1987 and 2024 in English and Spanish in a variety of musical genres such as folk\, country\, pop and Latino. Hinojosa’s interest in cultural diversity is a recurrent theme in both her work and her personal life\, and is expressed not only through her award-winning cross-cultural musical productions but also in her volunteer work with several humanitarian organizations and causes. \nTish left San Antonio in 1979\, moving to northern New Mexico where she honed her songwriting and singing skills and worked as back-up singer for country artist\, Michael Martin Murphey. She eventually settled in Austin\, Texas in 1988 where she was welcomed by Austin’s vibrant live music scene. \nIn 1987 Hinojosa recorded her first self-released album\, “Taos To Tennessee”. After her move to Austin\, she was signed to A&M Records and released her first internationally acclaimed record “Homeland”. The song “Donde Voy” (Where I Go)\, earned quadruple platinum status in South Korea. SUMMARY:Dustbowl Revival's New Date! October 5.
DESCRIPTION:– Postponed from Friday\, 12/08/23\nThe Show will now take place on 10/5/2024\n\n\nDoors 7pm\, Show 7:30pm\n\n\nADV $20 | DOS $25\nTickets HERE\n\n\n\nDustbowl Revival has always been about pushing the boundaries of what American roots music can be. After celebrating over a decade of sonic adventuring and playing thousands of shows together in ten countries and counting\, the group collected a devoted fanbase coast-to-coast. After throwing five of their own virtual Sway-At-Home festivals during the shut-down featuring nearly forty artists\, the always evolving group of string and brass players led by founding members Z. Lupetin\, Josh Heffernan\, Ulf Bjorlin are excited to welcome a new wave of talent to the band\, after emerging from a pandemic touring hiatus.\n\n\n\nAfter spending years on the road\, selling out hometown shows at LA’s famed Troubadour\, headlining festivals and wowing crowds from Denmark to China\, Dustbowl Revival never stopped making their joyful\, booty-shaking soul songs and cut-to-heart folk-rock ballads that lift up their transcendent live shows. Even so\, with the bands emotional new single “Beside You” and 2020’s ambitious full length album\, Is It You\, Is It Me\, they wanted to strike into new terrain. As they mined new energetic material from the place where folk and funk music meet\, they teamed up with producer Sam Kassirer (Lake Street Dive\, Josh Ritter) and engineer Brian Joseph (Bon Iver\, Sufjan Stevens). The latest album strikes a more personal note than ever before\, representing the latest stage in a band that never stops exploring new sounds.\n\n\n\nMany of the songs in this new collection feel like small theater pieces coming to life verse by verse. It’s the yin-yang conversational harmony that is the true specialty of lead songwriter and singer Z. Lupetin\, who also doubles as a playwright and recently wrote the music for a Greek tragedy set in Gold Rush era California. While longtime co-lead Liz Beebe has stepped away from the band after a long run\, an amazing young talent in Lashon Halley has stepped in to bring new life to the songs\, matching Lupetin’s intense vocal range with her own. There’s a new widescreen expansiveness to these new songs that wouldn’t be out of place in a packed arena or orchestra hall with a full neon light show. Acting like a nimble rock orchestra\, during the recording process\, each member played multiple instruments\, and the group brought in new musicians on symphonic brass\, and local friends to sing as a spur-of-the-moment choir.\n\n\n\nIf one thing is clear\, Is It You\, Is It Me represents another large leap forward for Dustbowl Revival\, coming after their acclaimed self-titled 2017 album. Produced by Grammy-winner Ted Hutt (Old Crow Medicine Show\, Drop Kick Murphy’s)\, it transitioned the group from a “roots dance party band” that continues to thrive on the festival circuit\, to a nuanced ensemble embracing more soulful territory without losing their original fire. That self-titled record was a direct bridge to the newest work\, rising number to one on the Amazon Americana chart and featuring a funky favorite “Honey I Love You” where the band joyfully teaming up with blues master Keb Mo’. Their heartache folk number “Got Over”\, surprised the band by racking up over seven million streams and counting online. “Beside You” stayed in the Americana charts for months and “Enemy” became a staple on SiriusXM\, especially during the 2020 election. To top it off\, Billboard Magazine added about that Is It You\, Is It Me is “the biggest sonic work of the Venice\, Calif.-based troupe’s career.”

SUMMARY:Ian Moore Band\, Mark Insley opens
DESCRIPTION:Ian Moore\, Saturday July 6th\n7pm doors\, 7:30 show\nAdv $17 | Dos $20\nTICKETS HERE \nIan Moore\, the Seattle-based\, Austin\, TX-born guitar player\, singer and songwriter makes the proverbial renaissance man look lazy. Coming on the heels of Strange Days\, his most successful record since his eponymous debut and despite a never-ending cycle of touring\, Moore offers a new release of bright\, blazing rock-n-roll that combines his legendary guitar prowess with radio-friendly songs that showcase his elastic\, soul-inflected vocals. “It’s a very different climate right now. When we hit a city\, it doesn’t matter that I have 14 records\, radio hits\, etc. The only thing that matters is we show up and leave the people feeling they saw something amazing. It keeps me hungry\, and I like the challenge” says Moore. \nFor years\, Ian has had his eyes on the challenges faced by musicians of every stripe\, having experienced the spectrum of artist successes and tribulations over a nearly 30-year career. In response\, he founded the artist’s healthcare alliance SMASH (Seattle Musicians Access to Sustainable Healthcare) and has joined the board of NARAS for the Pacific Northwest as governor and head of the advocacy committee. \nYou might have been surprised to hear Moore’s voice popping up on major network shows on prime time television this past year; several selections were prominently being featured as performances on both American Idol and The Voice (“Satisfied” and “Blue Sky”). \nMoore’s story is familiar to most critics; his initial record on Capricorn propelled him to national tours with the Rolling Stones\, ZZ Top and Bob Dylan\, acting in the acclaimed indie feature Sling Blade and having Ice Cube direct the video for his track “Harlem.” \nMoore deviated from his initial blues-oriented guitar sound on subsequent records\, touching on graceful pop songs and the psychedelic as well as British pub rock and deep Americana. Toronto and its 6 tracks represent those influences in such a way that they have informed his songwriting\, but is likely more recognizable as a strong collection of the kind of guitar rock his core fan base would respond to immediately. \nOn the triumphant “You Gotta Know My Name”\, Moore lampoons rich\, entitled hipster kids. “They get their marching orders from Pitchfork and fill their brains with coke and MDMA\, looking for soul and depth”\, Moore explains. “The chorus is a way of claiming my space as a person that has been slogging it out\, in and out of fashion for most of my career\, with a deeper sense of music\, style and substance than the people that might quickly write me off.” \nThe anthemic “Lords of the Levee” is a contemporary\, relevant take on the atmosphere of the U.S. right now.“ It’s an attack on group thought\,” Moore says\, “which is most typically shrouded in God and country\, that allows people to do some really terrible things. I wrote it about the Alabama voters rights act\, and how the people that opposed it used both God and country to justify their abhorrent behavior.” \nAnd it captures Ian’s blistering live sound probably better than any recording he’s released in recent memory. The catchy\, propulsive “Looking for the Sound” is a play on the record title “El Sonido Nuevo\,” which he wrote with his last group\, the Lossy Coils. “It comes from a Mighty Boosh skit\, but the gist of the song is about what it is to be a touring musician\, trying to build soul and culture\, still believing the same things I believed when I was 18\, and looking for open hearts and minds to feel it.” \nOn other tracks on the record\, “Satellite” and the slightly outrageous “Rock N Roll\,” Moore explores the underbelly of rock\, the bright side and the dangers of living your life in the magic of midnight.

SUMMARY:Chuck Prophet and The Mission Express
DESCRIPTION:Chuck Prophet and The Mission Express\nFriday\, June 7\n$20 adv | $24 day of – TIX HERE\n7:30 show\, 7 PM Doors \nSince his neo-psychedelic Green On Red days\, Chuck Prophet has been turning out country\, folk\, blues\, and Brill Building classicism. After a false start recording in his hometown of San Francisco\, Prophet decided to get out of Dodge and found himself re-energized in Upstate New York\, just a few miles from the Vermont border\, to make 2020’s The Land That Time Forgot\, a record that is as much a 21st century exorcism as it is America. \nWritten mostly with Prophet longtime collaborator and co-conspirator Klipschutz\, the songs that inhabit The Land That Time Forgot come at you from an array of locations both real and imagined\, including San Francisco’s Tenderloin\, an English roundabout\, and Nixonland\, while hanging out with the ghosts of Johnny Thunders\, Willie Wonka\, and John the Baptist\, and contemplating the train that carried Abraham Lincoln home for the final time. \nTo complement the critically acclaimed album\, in early 2022\, Prophet released The Land That Time Forgot Revisited\, a four-song digital live EP recorded at the Make Out Room in San Francisco featuring “Meet Me at the Roundabout\,” “Womankind\,” “Fast Kid\,” and “Kiss Me Deadly\,” with his band\, the Mission Express\, and a string quartet (the Makeout Room Quartet). \n“I know a little bit about how to craft a studio LP\,” says Prophet. “But recording live with a string quartet on a linoleum floor on a rainy Tuesday afternoon in an empty barroom in San Francisco’s Mission District is something different. For one thing\, there is an actual “arranger.” Like Nelson Riddle. Or what Randy Newman does\, adding his own secret sauce to the compositional gene pool that has scored half the soundtracks in Hollywood history. They’re a new way into the songs and an adventure finding our way out. There’s still an acoustic Mission Express in the mix\, along with the strings. Three songs from The Land That Time Forgot reimagined\, plus a Lita Ford cover that has to be heard to be believed.”
