SUMMARY:Dale Watson and His Lone Stars
DESCRIPTION:MAMMA COAL DUO OPENS! \n\n\n\n\n\nSisters Bar & Restaurant opens at 5pm. Information and reservations here.Doors open 6:30pm\, Show at 7:30pm \n\n\n\n* This show is partially seated* General Admission tickets are standing tickets. Gold Circle\, Rose Circle\, High Top Table for 4\, and Stage View Seating include seats.Dale Watson is a living legend of American roots music. With Texas-sized defiance and drive\, he’s spent four decades flying the flag for his own brand of honky-tonk\, outlaw country\, western swing\, and rockabilly. That signature sound has a name — “Ameripolitan”— and its originator is Watson himself: a singer\, songwriter\, guitarist\, producer\, actor\, cultural architect\, and rule-breaking traditionalist for the modern world\, championing the traditions that fly in the face of the homogenous mainstream.  \n\n\n\nWith Unwanted\, he fires another double-barreled shotgun blast of country twang and honky-tonk bang fueled by the heartaches\, hard-won lessons\, and high-speed thrills of a life largely logged on the road. Singing with a booming voice that could cut through the chaos of a packed dancehall\, Watson runs the show like a roots-rock ringleader. He salutes his vices on the galloping “Willie Waylon andWhiskey\,” reflects upon a lifetime of loss with the gorgeous ballad”If You Really Loved Me (Outlive Me)\,” and gets wistfully contemplative on “Life is Like a Song.” Entirely written and produced by Watson\, Unwanted is the sound of an Ameripolitan diehard with plenty of life left in the tank\, speeding toward a horizon of his own making.

SUMMARY:TRAMPLED by TURTLES\, Sold out
DESCRIPTION:With Support from Wild Horses \n\n\n\n\n\nSunday\, March 15th \n\n\n\nThis show is SOLD OUT \n\n\n\nSisters Restaurant and Bar opens at 5pm  Reservations and info:  www.sisterstucson.comDoors open at 6:45pmShow starts at 7:30pm$61.30\, – (High top tables\, sold out) \n\n\n\n\n\nSpotify | Facebook | Instagram \n\n\n\nTrampled by Turtles are from Duluth\, Minnesota\, where frontman Dave Simonett initially formed the group as a side project in 2003. At the time\, Simonett had lost most of his music gear\, thanks to a group of enterprising car thieves who’d ransacked his vehicle while he played a show with his previous band. Left with nothing more than an acoustic guitar\, he began piecing together a new band\, this time taking inspiration from bluegrass\, folk\, and other genres that didn’t rely on amplification. \n\n\n\nSimonett hadn’t played any bluegrass music before\, and he filled his lineup with other newcomers to the genre\, including fiddler Ryan Young (who’d previously played drums in a speed metal act) and bassist Tim Saxhaug. Along with mandolinist Erik Berry and banjo player Dave Carroll\, the group began carving out a fast\, frenetic sound that owed as much to rock & roll as bluegrass. \n\n\n\nThere crossover appeal has landed them on the #1 spot of Billboard’s Bluegrass Charts on every record they’ve released while playing marquee festivals like Coachella\, ACL Fest\, and Lollapalooza. Countless tours with diverse artists ranging Shakey Graves\,  Zach Bryan\, Wilco\, Caamp\, Mt Joy\, Willie Nelson\, Avett Brothers\, Lord Huron and many more have followed solidifying a loyal fanbase.  Their last full length album Alpenglow was produced by Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy. 2025 began with the band releasing a cover of Bon Iver’s “From Emma” with Caamp’s Taylor Meier (aka Sumbuck) on lead vocals. A few new collaborations are set to be announced in the coming weeks. \n\n\n\nWild Horses \n\n\n\nSpotify | Facebook | Instagram \n\n\n\nWild Horses brings their own rootsy Americana sound from their home in the woods of Minnesota\, taking inspiration from the people and places found along the great American Highway.  \n\n\n\nSharing the stage with the likes of Willie Nelson\, Trampled by Turtles\, Muscadine Bloodline\, and Wilco\, they’ve earned a loyal following that continues to grow with every show. They draw listeners in with captivating melodies\, a hard-hitting drive\, and a palpable stage presence.  \n\n\n\nFeaturing Jed LaPlant on vocals/guitar/kick drum\, Ariana LaPlant on vocals/fiddle/keys\, and Landon Pahl on vocals/bass\, they have shaped a sound that incorporates heartbreaking vocals\, standout harmonies\, driving beats\, and explosive dynamics.

Released inthe throes of bro-country and before pop stars were crossing over into thegenre left and right\, it showcased an artist completely unafraid to double downnot only on herself\, but what she’d always loved: classic country songs writtenfrom the intellect and the gut\, hell-bent on truth-telling and both timelessand urgent all at once. Respected by her peers\, praised by critics and beloved by her fans\, Price created a lane where independent-minded\, insurgent country music can exist and thrive alongside the mainstream\, and became an ardent fighter for her beliefs in a genre where the norm is to shut up and sing. A trailblazer and a champion for the craft\, Price redefined what it meant to be a modern country artist. \n\n\n\nAnd now she’s back with an exquisite\, truly timeless album that reconnects with her roots and pays tribute to the art of the country song\, inspired in part by the legends whom she now calls colleagues and friends. Hard Headed Woman is both a look forward and a look back: a way to march forward while staying true to yourself when the path of less resistance is right there in front of us\, and short cuts are around every corner. And a way to look back when we need to trim what is no longer working\, and to stay connected with where we’re from. It is a promise and a manifesto\, a love song to both a cityand a genre\, and a defiant cry for individuality. \n\n\n\nIn creating Hard Headed Woman\, Price brought all of her power as one of  our most beloved and respected songwriters tocraft a deep exploration of love and America in a time of unprecedenteduncertainty. Featuring appearances from Tyler Childers\, co-writes with Rodney Crowell and a Waylon Jennings song that his widow\, Jessi Colter\, urged her to sing\, it is country music as only Price can make it: free of rules\, cherishing tradition\, hard headed to the core but with a delicate\, beating heart.  \n\n\n\nPrice has established herself as one of the most passionate\, vocal artists in country music and beyond and when it came to standing up for political and personal causes\, from the presidential election\, to abortion to gun control: happily hard headed when it came to the fight for equality and justice\, especially for the working class and underserved in our society. Price has always brilliantly woven her activism into her songs\, but her role as a spokesperson had started to overtake\, on occasion\, her role as a songwriter. She wanted to focus on using her written word to deliver the most potent punch of all. \n\n\n\n “I always hope to do like Johnny Cash did\,” Price says\, “which is speak up for the common man and woman. But there have been so many threats and anger and vitriol over the years\, when I am only coming from a place of love.”      \n\n\n\nHardHeaded Woman is rooted in Price’s history and struggle to make it as a musician in a town that prizes uniformity and the bottom line\, rooted in the country and folk sounds that have become her signature\, rooted in the simplicity of a few key collaborators instead of songs-by-committee. At the heart of Price’s work is her creative partnership with Ivey\, with whom she describes as having a “soul connection.” “I’m a songwriter\,” Price says. “I’m not somebody who goes out and needs five people to craft a song\, and then tack my name on it. That’s never been my style. Ihave something to say.” \n\n\n\nShe has something to say and nothing to prove. The first song they wrote for the album that would become Hard Headed Woman was “Close to You\,” a simple\, pining call for a lover that is infused with the sounds of the desert. It’s unfettered and truth-telling\, accented by some flamenco guitar and Price’s gorgeous\, urgent vocals. “We played the jukebox while democracy fell\,” Price sings\, never letting her songs fall out of the context in which they exist. It’s the kind of thing that only she could write\, carrying both love and fear in one single line. \n\n\n\nAs more songs started to form\, an early boost of confidence came from her friends Rodney Crowell and Emmylou Harris\, who heard some of the work at a political fundraiser and encouragedPrice to keep going.  “I have both of them to thank for building me up and making me believe in the songs I am writing in this season of my life\,” Price says. Crowell remained not only an inspiration and supporter of the album but a contributor: he co-wrote two songs with Price and Ivey. \n\n\n\n Songs like the album’s lead single\,“Don’t Let the Bastards Get you Down\,” speak for the down trodden and the forgotten\, an “anthem for people who are being overlooked in society and need to be lifted up\,” Price says\, “because we are up against so much right now.” As so many of Price’s songs do\, it speaks both for the personal and the political all at once. Price was inspired by the message Kris Kristofferson whispered to Sinead O’Connor when she was booed on stage at a Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary show\, and even got Kristofferson’s widow’s blessing to include his name on the credits. “I always admired Kris for how he stood by her in that moment\, instead of pulling her off the stage like they told him\,” Price says. It serves as a reminder to anyone who encounters resistance in the face of fighting for justice to keep going\, especially when it would be so much easier to capitulate and cower. \n\n\n\nWhen it came time to record Hard Headed Woman\, it was important for Price to keep that ethos alive\, decamping to Nashville’s RCA Studio A and reuniting with producer Matt Ross-Spang\, with whom she made her first two solo albums. Though she has worked with everyone from Sturgill Simpson to Jonathan Wilson since\, it was Spang’s vocal rebuke of easy studio shortcuts that made her eager to reunite again. “He’s so unpretentious\,” Price says. “He fully believes in me\, he fully believes in my songs. He got us back to feeling it in your gut and not needing everything to be so perfect.” \n\n\n\nAt its core\, Hard Headed Woman is about that furious instinct to never waver\, especially when ourselves\, our values and our future is so clearly on the line.As she sings on the title track\, “I ain’t ashamed\, I just am what I am.” \n\n\n\n“I hope this album inspires people to be fearless and take chances and just be unabashedly themselves\,” Price says\, “in a culture that tries as hard as it can to beat us into all being the same.”

This is not the bluegrass of ambitious musicians intent on industry success\, this is music made firstly for the joy of making it and primarily made for each other. The group is proud to be Californian\, proud to represent the neo-traditionalist bluegrass and folk from the state and the mighty communities surrounding them. Their music shines with this “think global\, act local” sort of approach. They are currently touring behind their late 2024 critically acclaimed album City of Glass that was followed up by an EP of cover songs called Cover to Cover V1 in 2025.

A multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter\, he’s collaborated with practically everyone in the top tier of contemporary Bluegrass and Americana\, including Robert Plant\, Steve Earle\, Sam Bush\, Emmylou Harris\, Guy Clark\, Tim O’Brien\, Kate Ruby\, Mary Gauthier\, Tim O’Brien\, Verlon Thomson\, Jimmie Dale Gilmore\, and a list that goes on and on. He’s been the beneficiary of any number of kudos across the board\, including Song of the Year honors from the Americana Music Association for “Hank Williams’ Ghost” and “Songwriter of the Year” from both ASCAP and Nashville Songwriters Association International. The elevated status of his song “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alone”\, became the closing track for the popular TV series “Justified” during several of its seasons. \n\n\n\nDarrell Scott seems to have inherited his abilities quite naturally. Having inherited the traditional template of his dad\, Wayne Scott\, his father’s influence has never wavered. “This Weary Way”\, on his terrific album\, Old Cane Back Rocker\, was\, in fact\, written by the elder Scott. \n\n\n\nThese days  you’ll find Scott roaming his Tennessee wilderness acreage hiking along the small river\, creating delicious meals with food raised on his property\, and playing music. He often leads songwriting workshops to help people tell their own truths with their stories\, and is as busy as always writing\, producing\, performing\, and just plain fully immersing himself in life.

Della Mae is one such band. \n\n\n\nThe GRAMMY-nominated string band was founded in 2010 and over the next decade and a half they’ve demonstrated to the roots music world\, once and for all\, that a band of all women is not\, nor has ever been\, a mere novelty. They remain at the forefront of the explosion of women instrumentalists and all-women acts in roots music and their impact is striking and measurable – not just in North America\, but around the globe. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNow 15 years since their origin\, Della Mae can boast their strongest lineup yet. Founders Kimber Ludiker and Celia Woodsmith are joined by guitarist and songwriter Avril Smith and vocalist and two-time IBMA Bass Player of the Year Vickie Vaughn. \n\n\n\nThere has never been a band like Della Mae in roots music before\, but thanks to Kimber Ludiker\, Celia Woodsmith\, Avril Smith\, Vickie Vaughn – and all of the women who have been part of this band over its long life – we know there will be many more bands\, singers\, songwriters\, and pickers just like Della Mae in the future.

The self-taught\, left-handed Montoya mastered his craft under Collins’ tutelage. \n\n\n\nIncorporating lessons learned from his mentors\, the iconic Collins (for whom he originally drummed)\, and UK legend John Mayall\, Montoya puts his own stamp onto every song he performs. Since his first solo album in 1995 (which won him the Blues Music Award for Best New Artist)\, Montoya’s endlessly inventive guitar work and passionate\, hard-hitting vocals have kept him at the top of the blues world. With his new Alligator Records album\, Writing On The Wall (his sixth for the label)\, Montoya delivers what he is already calling one of the best records he’s ever made. For the very first time on Alligator\, he decided to bring his road-tested band—noted keyboardist and songwriter Jeff Paris (Keb’ Mo’\, Bill Withers)\, bassist Nathan Brown\, and drummer Rena Beavers—into the studio with him. Between the camaraderie of the long-time bandmates and the sheer talent of all involved\, the results have left Coco\, in his words\, “over the moon.”

Although they showed up to their first gig armed with homemade puff paint t-shirts\, a load of crass jokes\, and all dressed intentionally like Stevie Nicks\, from the first few notes of their tight vocal harmonies\, dazzling string virtuosity\, and clever arrangements\, no one had any choice but to take them seriously. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetermined to be more than a one-night stand\, Big Richard hit the road. They slapped as hard as possible on the festival circuit\, worked up their stamina on nationwide headlining tours\, and left a wake of die-hard Big Richard Heads across the country swooning for their honest songwriting\, chilling vocals\, and fiddle-driven barn-burners. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFueled by a steady diet of gas station snacks\, Big Richard is currently touring their debut full-length studio album Girl Dinner\, following a whirlwind year that included performances on PBS’ the Cavern Sessions\, NPR’s World Cafe\, Telluride Bluegrass Festival\, Delfest\, Bourbon and Beyond\, Jam Cruise\, and New Year’s Eve at the Ryman in Nashville. \n\n\n\nThey often refer to themselves as the gremlins of the bluegrass world\, and the gremlins are: platinum recording artist Bonnie Sims\, who rips the mandolin and smells like Snoop Dogg’s sock drawer; road dog Eve Panning\, who toured extensively with the fiddle band Barrage and has trained her dog to murder on command; bassist Hazel Royer\, plucked from the sidewalk in front of Berklee\, can probably communicate with crows; and Dr. Joy Adams\, who would just rather be skiing.

Standing: $36Upper Level Premium Seating: 47.85Premium Seating: $47.85General Adm. Seating: $42.18 \n\n\n\nWatch VIDEO  \n\n\n\nAlejandro Escovedo returns to explore “one of the most fascinating paths in music” (NPR Music) on Echo Dancing – a career-spanning collection that’s less a look back than a bold new turn for this sonic adventurer and singular creative mind. Completely reinventing and re-recording his previous work – with inspiration from Brian Eno and Judy Nylon and Suicide – Escovedo traces a one-of-a-kind musical life from ‘70s New York punk to Austin’s “musical conscience and hometown hero” (NPR Alt Latino) to unflinching advocate for musicians’ mental health and immigrant causes. With the announcement of Echo Dancing – last Spring via Yep Roc Records – Escovedo has also shared a scorching reimagining of “Bury Me\,” a song he first wrote in the early ‘90s contemplating what would happen if he “should die before he turns 43″…fittingly it’s released today\, on his 73rd birthday. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“I was planning this record just prior to boarding a plane to Italy to record with [co-producers] Don Antonio and Nicola Peruch\,” says Escovedo. “My original idea was to record an album of new material. But then I changed my mind and thought that revisiting songs from my various albums would be more interesting. I always feel that a well-written song can withstand a lot of abuse. Turning a past song inside out leads to discovery of new ideas you might not have understood. The songs never seem to be complete. They are always evolving.” \n\n\n\nThroughout Echo Dancing\, Escovedo revisits rarities from his ‘80s Austin groups Buick MacKane and The True Believers (natural picks for a recent Austin City Limits Hall of Fame inductee)\, solo standouts that had No Depression crown him Artist Of The Decade in the ‘90s and more recent work through 2018’s scorching and cinematic border epic The Crossing. That most recent album saw Escovedo deliver a powerful repudiation of the bigotry and xenophobia coming from Washington at the time – on a collection that garnered praise from CBS This Morning\, The New Yorker\, Rolling Stone and NPR’s Tiny Desk – for a sound that channeled “Townes Van Zandt and Iggy Pop teaming up for a film noir soundtrack” (Billboard). Holding true to his musical vision since his time opening for The Sex Pistols as a member of punk pioneers The Nuns\, Echo Dancing cements Escovedo as a too-often overlooked but integral legend of 21st century American music. \n\n\n\nDave Gonzalez is a preeminent American roots music guitarist. In 1980 he was the founding member of the rockabilly blues band The Paladins. His group would go on to record twelve albums and headline festivals around the world. Endorsed by Fender\, the company made a Signature Model guitar for him called the Guild Paladin and Guitar Player Magazine has called him one of the Top 101 Unsung Guitar Heroes. In 2003 Gonzalez\, along with vocalist Chris Gaffney\, founded the western soul band\, The Hacienda Brothers. This ensemble would go on to gain critical acclaim\, including a 2007 nomination by the Americana Music Association for “Group of The Year.”

Nearly five decades after he first made his entrance onto the scene\, Jones paved the way for modern soul music and is largely responsible for the genre’s rise and enduring popularity. \n\n\n\nFrom midcentury Memphis\, where the brutality of segregation was a stark backdrop to the loving\, supportive family and community in which he was raised\, to the creative hotbed of Beale Street\, the Harlem of the South; from his early friendship with figures such as Maurice White (who went on to form Earth\, Wind\, and Fire) to the complicated dynamics of the racially mixed MGs—Jones not only was a witness to revolutions but also wrote their soundtracks. His musical legacy includes enduring compositions such as “Time Is Tight\,” “Hip Hug-Her\,” and the oftensampled “Melting Pot” and collaborations with the likes of Otis Redding\, Wilson Pickett\, and Sam and Dave—and later Neil Young\, Bob Dylan\, Barbra Streisand\, Carlos Santana\, and Willie Nelson. \n\n\n\nYears in the making\, this unforgettable personal journey is so much more than just a musician’s tale. Indeed\, Time Is Tight is both the definitive account of one of modern music’s most influential eras and also a necessary addition to the canon of literature about American music. \n\n\n\nBooker T. Jones is an American multi-instrumentalist\, songwriter\, record producer\, and arranger. Best known as the front man of the band Booker T. & the MGs\, he has worked with countless award-winning artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and has earned a Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement. Along with the band\, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. Jones continues to record and tour internationally\, both as a solo artist and as head of Booker T.’s Stax Revue.

SUMMARY:James McMurtry with BettySoo

This time around\, I was struck by how dextrous and skilled he is as a guitarist; he really gets a full sound out of just an acoustic guitar\, which isn’t easy. As dextrous as his fingers are\, his mind is even sharper\, and his songs are some of the best being written today.” Mark Engelson\, Parklife\, DC\n\nThe son of one of America’s most celebrated novelists\, James McMurtry followed the family’s tradition: he’s a master storyteller who relates his tales in verse and music. Part of the Texas singer/songwriter community\, McMurtry has a gift for character studies\, documenting lives not in perfect balance\, and offering political commentary on how the choices of the powerful impact the lives of ordinary folks. McMurtry’s vocals are dour and plainspoken\, but give eloquent voice to the lives of his protagonists\, and his artfully unadorned lyrics are often full of warmth and humanity\, even in narratives full of chaos. McMurtry made a celebrated debut with 1989’s Too Long in the Wasteland\, he hit a creative stride with 2005’s Childish Things and 2008’s Just Us Kids\, and on 2021’s The Horses and the Hounds\, the performances and production were every bit as compelling as McMurtry’s songs.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Recorded on analog gear with the musicians largely in one room\, Do It My Own Way is sonically inspired by the classic Memphis soul sound of Stax and Hi Records\, especially that of the Staples Singers. The second single “Wild As a Rainstorm\,” which dives deep into soul territory\, powerfully gives advice to women and people who feel left out to ignore the naysayers and “Be a tapestry of dreams.” The track has been added to Spotify’s official Retro Soul playlist. The groove and horns would make Willie Mitchell proud\, and indeed features legendary Hi Records organist Rev. Charles Hodges. The vocals are powerful\, awe-inspiring\, and undeniably soulful vocals. \nThe songwriter/bandleader made her Chicago Blues Festival debut this year\, in front of tens of thousands. Best known in the blues world – she’s a twelve-time Blues Music Award nominee and four-time winner\, including for the monumental Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year\, Horn Player of the Year\, and B.B. King Entertainer of the Year this year – Do It My Own Way finds her influenced by soul artists like Mavis Staples\, Sharon Jones\, James Brown\, and Aretha Franklin. \nBlues Blast Magazine said\, “Vanessa is an important part of the future of the blues.” Born in Texas\, growing up in Maryland\, launching her career in Philadelphia\, and now residing in South Carolina\, Collier grew up listening to an eclectic variety of music. After graduating from Berklee College of Music\, she joined blues legend Joe Louis Walker’s band\, going solo at his urging\, and has become a notable artist “whose rise to the top is nothing short of meteoric” (Making a Scene). She has opened concerts for Blues Traveler. Her prior studio album\, Heart On The Line\, garnered rave reviews and spent nine weeks in the Billboard Blues Album Chart top 15.
