Native American Music Award (NAMMY) nominee for “Best Blues Recording,” Smokestack Lightning has earned a lot of praise since forming in 2009. This is a band that gets right to the point, and they use the unmistakable sound of pain, triumph, loneliness and joy to get that point across. They take the wisdom of the blues and the mesmerism of rock n roll to split tuneful atoms every time they hit the stage. Since coming together, they’ve taken cues from their blues and rock forbearers to create a truly American sound.
Bassist Mark Leos and drummer Pat Antone hold up the groove while guitarist Rik Leos and harmonica player Robert Jackson blow you away with their fiery leads.
Smokestack Lightning has released two self produced albums of original music, “Soul Left Blind,” and “SSL.” Soul Left Blind” was nominated for a Native American Music Award (NAMMY) for “Best Blues Recording.”
In 2015 and 2017 Smokestack Lightning won the Arizona Blues Showdown at the Rhythm Room in Phoenix and competed in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN, hosted by the Blues Foundation.
Based in Arizona on the Gila River Indian Community, Smokestack Lightning has traveled beyond the reaches of their reservation and performed before a wide array of audiences at venues and events. They’ve played at casinos, museums, rodeos, clubs and festivals from Arizona to Memphis.
