John Coinman is an award-winning singer-songwriter from Tucson AZ. He has recorded six solo albums and written numerous songs used in major motion pictures and television series. John is the long-time bandleader for Kevin Costner & Modern West (KCMW) and he was the Music Supervisor for the Academy Award wininng film, Dances With Wolves. He has been touring with KCMW since 2006 and has recorded 5 albums of original songs with the band including the companion CDs to the award winning miniseries Hatfields and McCoys and the Paramount series Yellowstone. After a long hiatus Kevin Costner & Modern West is hitting the road again starting with an August 2021 tour.
This October 9, John is taking a break from the KCMW tour to perform with his band in Tucson at Hotel Congress. The John Coinman band features a group of incredibly talented musicians – Blair Forward on bass, Larry Cobb on drums, Neil Harry on pedal steel, and Duncan Stitt on keyboard.
In 2020, with time on his hands, John created several videos to accompany some of his favorite songs. His video, “Long Way From Home” earned an Honorable Mention in the 2021 Voices Rising Film Festival in New York City. Jo Anderson co-directed and Michael Hyatt provided photographs from his Book, Along the Migrant Trail.
